We are a wholesale nursery located in Ingham (about 110km north of Townsville), in the beautiful tropics of North Queensland. We have been avid collectors of unusual plants (succulents) for the last 10 years, and have only recently decided to turn our passion into a wholesale nursery. We were initially drawn to agave and yucca plants because of their unique ability to flourish all year round with minimal attention, which we believe is important in today's society. With limited time, smaller garden spaces and many areas of our country experiencing water shortages, these plants are ideally suited. Almost all of the varieties we sell are used in our own gardens and can be freighted to most locations including Townsville, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Our most favorite plant is the Yucca Elephantipes as they are very popular for landscaping in the home garden. They can be grown in most area's along the east coast of Australia. They are well know for there low maintenance abilities. They produce flowers on a upright stem usually around 1m to 1.5m with a mass of white bell shaped flowers. The stem is thick and can be cut to produce what is called a multihead yucca with a shrub like effect. Yucca's are often featured in landscaping shows or home renovation shows and are widely used in the Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne areas.
Landscaping design ideas:
Planted in a row always looks good.
Plant one or two as a feature with other small succulents around the base.
Plant in a pot for your balcony or at your front entrance of your home.
Agave are also a popular plant for the home garden. Agave are extremely hardy and take very little care and attention great for people who are time poor which is a lot of the society as more and more couples have to both work to pay for our lifestyles. Agave and Yucca make a great combination when creating your garden as they are very similar plants which can cope with limited water. The options for creating your garden is to plant the same agave variety in a row, pattern or to mix and match different agaves together, the advantage is there a lot of different colours to choose from to add that special effect to the garden! We recently had Cyclone Yasi here for a visit which was a worry for us as to how the plants would survive, to our suprise they have held up very well with the furcraea receiving the most damage having some of there leaves broken. The best thing about having these varieties was there was no big clean up of tree branches and less chance of tree branches hitting our house as we don't have trees in our garden. We have learnt that if there is a cyclone coming it is best to keep trees away from the house or not to have them at all! Hope this information helps in designing you garden!
